Schillerhöhe Marbach am Neckar
Marbach am Neckar, the birthplace of the famous writer Friedrich Schiller, has dedicated a particularly beautiful part of the town to its famous son: the Schillerhöhe. Between 1835 and 1840, a disused quarry was turned into a park with sycamores, chestnuts, oaks and limes – and a magnificent view over the Neckar Valley.
Besides the Schiller Memorial, this is also the site of the National Schiller Museum, the Museum of Modern Literature, the German Literature Archive and Johann Caspar Schiller's (Schiller's father's) orchard. On an exhibition area of over 1000 m² the Museum of Modern Literature displays the most valuable items from some 1200 authors' estates from the adjacent German Literature Archive.
The museum orchard with traditional fruit trees is on the southern side. Some 30 old varieties of fruit trees are cultivated here.
